Tridoshas in Ayurveda

The foundation of Ayurveda is based on the concept of three doshas — vāta (air and space, or wind), pitta (fire and water, or bile) and kapha (water and earth, or phlegm). In Ayurveda, the equilibrium of these elements/energies/humors determines one’s health. As per Ayurveda, these three doshas are determinant of health, because when they are in equal proportion, the body remains healthy, active, and vibrant. If they are not in equal proportion, the body remains unhealthy, diseased, and dysfunctional in myriad ways. Ayurveda proclaims that each person owns a distinct combination of doshas that define his/her temper and features. Thus, Ayurveda deals widely with processes of healthy living throughout the entire life span of a person.
